SVS exec at State of Union

Marie Bernard, executive director of Sunnyvale Community Services, was a virtual guest at President Joe Biden’s March 1 State of the Union Address. Bernard was invited by Rep. Ro Khanna to celebrate the work she is doing to end homelessness and hunger in his District 17.

“Marie has been a relentless advocate for our local community and improved the quality of life for countless individuals and families struggling with homelessness,” Khanna said in a statement.

Sunnyvale Community Services helps more than 10,000 clients each year with basic needs, including rental assistance, healthy foods, case management services and referrals to benefits.

“The organization goes above and beyond for everyone it serves, supplying low-income families with school supplies as well as food and gift cards during the holiday season,” added Khanna, who recently visited the nonprofit’s new Kern Avenue facility. “They truly are a hub for safety net services in Silicon Valley.”
