Authorities have identified a driver killed in a four-vehicle crash last week on Highway 4 in Antioch.
Eqbal Khan, 56, of Discovery Bay died at the scene following the crash on Sept. 10 in the westbound direction east of the Hillcrest Avenue exit. The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office released his identity Tuesday.
Ten people have died in 10 separate fatal crashes on Highway 4 this year. Khan’s death marked the first in a crash on the highway since June.
The wreck happened just before 1:40 p.m. when a white Infiniti G37 that Khan drove merged between a black Chevrolet Tahoe and the semi truck that was behind it, the California Highway Patrol said. The Infiniti hit the Tahoe, sending it veering into the center guardrail and then back into lanes, the CHP said.
The semi and a grey Toyota Corolla hit the Infiniti as it came back across the freeway.
Drugs and alcohol were not believed to be factors in the crash, according to the CHP, and nobody else involved in the wreck was injured seriously.
