The Solano County Coroner on Tuesday said a 42-year-old Concord man died in a collision Saturday night when he drove his motorcycle on the Magazine Street off-ramp on Interstate 80 in Vallejo.
In a press release issued Monday, Officer Jason Tyhurst, a spokesman for CHP-Solano in Fairfield, said a preliminary investigation showed that Jeff Lipary Jr. was driving “at a high-rate-of-speed and was unable to negotiate the roadway.”
CHP dispatchers received a 8:35 p.m. report of a traffic collision involving a solo motorcycle rider who had been ejected from his Harley-Davidson on the street’s eastbound freeway off-ramp.
Lipary lost control of the motorcycle, which overturned, ejecting him, and Lipary and the motorcycle continued in an easterly direction, where he struck two posted regulatory signs in the median dividing the off-ramp and the on-ramp, Tyhurst added in the prepared statement.
Lipary suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at about 8:45 p.m., despite life-saving efforts by medics who arrived on scene, said Tyhurst.
He also said investigators did not know if distracted driving, drugs and/or alcohol intoxication were factors leading to the collision.
Any person with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the CHP at a non-emergency line, telephone 800-TELL-CHP (800-835-5247), or at (707) 639-5600. Tell whomever answers that you have information for CHP-Solano and Officer P. Ramos, who is handling the investigation.
