The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has charged an 18-year-old Brentwood man with homicide, as well as a gun enhancement, in a fatal weekend shooting, authorities said.

On Sunday afternoon, police responded to an apartment building in the 160 block of Sycamore Avenue for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived at the building, they found a 43-year-old Turlock resident outside suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite paramedics’ and firefighters’ efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say family disturbance preceded the shooting, and took a family member into custody on suspicion of being responsible for the shooting. A firearm was also recovered at the scene.

Police identified the family member as Israel Resendiz, and said he had been booked into Martinez county jail on suspicion of homicide.

In a charging document Wednesday, the district attorney’s office identified Resendiz’s victim as Jose Silvestre Resendiz-Valles, and said Resendiz is charged with homicide and personal and intentional discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury.

A district attorney spokeswoman said Resendiz will face arraignment in Contra Costa Superior Court, Dept. 25, 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
