Many people think that all tattoos are masculine, but this simply isn’t the case. There are plenty of tattooers out there who craft stunningly delicate and dainty tattoos, especially those who specialize in micro realism. Over the last several years, we’ve seen plenty of feminine designs come out of these artists and one of our absolute favorite subjects to see are ribbons/bows.
Executing a ribbon tattoo is much harder than it looks. If you’re going for realism, you need to take many factors into account. But perhaps the most crucial is texture. If you’re going for a silk or satin ribbon, you’ll need to be able to mimic the shine when the light hits the fabric. And if you’re going for something sheer, you’ll have to be able to mimic the semi-transparency without loosing the legibility of the design. Once you have texture down, there are so many exciting directions to go in—whether that be adding gems and jewels or incorporating a creative pattern. The options for artistic excellence are virtually limitless.
