When Honda launched the Acura line in 1986, they created something that the world had never seen before: a true top-tier luxury car from Japan. Sure, the Japanese had been building cars such as the Sovereign and President for their home market for years, but those were not seen in the rest of the world and were single models instead of an entire line of cars. The Acura concept proved to be quite successful and soon afterwards you saw Toyota launch Lexus and Nissan introduce Infiniti.

Of all the Acura cars, my favorite has always been the Acura Legend Coupe. In fact, my family had one when I was a kid and I remember thinking that the build quality was as nice as that of the BMW 633CSi we also had at the time.

Now on AutoHunter, the auction platform powered by ClassicCars.com, is this 1991 Acura Legend L

The Legend was the top-of-the-line model for Acura. Think of it as the company’s version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and you are on the right track. I remember how much it reminded me of our BMW 6 Series, which I am sure was the point. These cars are extremely well-built and were the absolute best that Honda could make at the time – which should tell you just how great a car an Acura Legend is.

The selling dealer describes this Legend as powered by a C32A 3.2-liter V6 mated to a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Finished in Charcoal Granite Metallic over a Cream Ivory leather interior, this Acura is now offered with service records and a clear title.

The car is said to be in 100 percent original cosmetic condition, with the paint, exterior trim, and interior being completely stock.

The Charcoal Granite Metallic paint appears to be both original and in amazingly good condition. The dealer notes that there are minor surface scratches here and there, but to me, this Legend might be the best example I have seen in years, a true show-quality original example. It rides on its original 16-inch wheels that are clad in 205/60 General Altimax tires.

Inside the cabin, this car is nothing short of amazing. Most Legends were literally driven into the ground; somehow, this one escaped that fate to become a true time capsule. The power-adjustable front seats are covered in the original Cream Ivory leather upholstery, which seems new. The same goes for the dashboard, carpets, and interior trim. This basically looks like a brand-new 1991 Legend.

Under the hood is the original C32A SOHC 24-valve 3.2-liter V6, which produces 202 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 210 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. Like the rest of the car, it looks exceptional. When you consider that this car has only covered 82K miles from new, it all starts making sense. Then you check out the service records and you get that this is exactly what it appears to be: a true survivor and a perfectly preserved 1991 Acura. New parts include the front axle, rear shocks, timing belt, spark plugs, AC compressor, water pump, and drive belts.

If you are looking for a true future collector car that is not only ready to show, but is also a great car to drive and enjoy, then bid on this rare early example of Japanese automotive excellence.
