The Pick of the Day is a 1963 Chevrolet C10 Stepside pickup listed by an Ohio dealership on ClassicCars.com.
I can’t speak for any of you out there, but I know that I go into phases when it comes to certain vehicles. Lately, I’ve been nuts about vintage Chevy trucks. It started when I looked at the docket for the Barrett-Jackson 2023 Scottsdale Fall Auction and saw a handsome blue 1972 Chevrolet C10 Stepside with its original I6 engine and transmission. Since then, I’ve been combing through ClassicCars.com looking for other cool C10s. As you can see, I found another one.
This first-generation C/K-series pickup got a new shot at life with a frame-up restoration. As part of the process, the frame was powder-coated. Surrounding hardware, such as the suspension and brake components, was upgraded so this truck now sits on a Total Cost Involved suspension and stops with the help of Wilwood power disc brakes. The exterior was refinished in an unusual yet attractive combination of Champagne for the body and Cream for the grille and the cab roof (which makes me wonder if that pairing would taste good as a drink). Inside the Stepside box is a new load floor made out of dark Tigerwood. That’s all set tastefully close to the ground on a set of smoothie wheels with chrome hub caps and low-profile tires.
Inside, the updates are obvious, but they weren’t done with a heavy hand. Tan and taupe covers the power bucket seats, custom center stack/console, and door panels. The original instrumentation was replaced with Dakota Digital gauges. The steering column is equipped with billet tilt and turn signal stalks and connected to a newer wood-rimmed steering wheel. Conveniences include power windows, a Pioneer head unit, and a Vintage Air climate control system.
Whoever built this truck didn’t stop with the cosmetics. They also yanked out the original engine and put in a 430-horsepower LS3 6.2-liter V8, taking special care to hide wires and cables to keep the engine bay looking nice and tidy. The fuel-injected engine sends its output through a SuperMatic 6L80-E six-speed automatic and a nine-inch Currie rear end.
That’s a helluva bump in power. The only catch is that digging into it would turn this beauty into a blur and deprive fellow drivers and bystanders a full look at its classic styling and eye-pleasing colors.
If you’re on a Chevrolet C10 kick and absolutely jonesing for this great custom ’63, satisfying the urge will cost you $129,900.
