Featured on  AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this low-mileage 1979 Pontiac Trans Am

Thanks largely to its starring role in the movie “Smokey and the Bandit,” the Pontiac Trans Am was the dream car of the 1970s and 80s for those who loved American muscle cars. In the era of mediocre performance, it was one of the few cars that was still waving the performance car flag. It looked fast and actually went relatively fast too. In addition to its straight-line performance, it also handled quite well.

The Trans Am featured in this AutoHunter Spotlight has covered only 45K miles since new and looks to be in excellent condition. It is powered by a 403ci V8 backed by a three-speed Turbo Hydra-matic 350 automatic transmission. Finished in Solar Gold over a White vinyl interior, this Trans Am comes from the selling dealer with vehicle documentation, a build sheet, and a clear title.

The exterior of this Trans Am is painted in factory-correct Solar Gold (paint code 50) and features color-keyed sport mirrors, glass T-tops, and a power antenna. The car rides on factory-correct Gold aluminum Pontiac snowflake wheels with 225/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires.

The interior features nicely contrasting White vinyl upholstery and has options which include A/C, power steering, a Delco AM/FM radio, power windows, power locks, and a tilt steering column with a factory-correct sport steering wheel. The interior as a whole looks to be in the same excellent condition as the body.

Residing under the long hood is the correct Oldsmobile 403ci V8 that features 185 horsepower at 3,600 rpm and 320 lb-ft of torque at 2,800 rpm, something that is emblematic of the time. It might not have a lot of top end, but the acceleration from 0-60 mph is bound to be fun; when tested as a new car, the Trans Am did that run in only 6.7 seconds.

If you are looking for a true iconic American muscle car (that does not have to be black), this Trans Am is a definite ticket to fun.
