Rubbish bins will be set up for free large-item disposal on Saturday, Sept. 14, in South San Jose.

Drop-off will run from 8 a.m. to noon — or until the bins are filled — on Mescalero Drive behind Challenger School. Drivers are asked to enter from eastbound Shawnee Lane.

Mattresses, carpeting and furniture will be accepted. Items that will not be accepted include household garbage, hazardous items, electronic waste and refrigerators; find the full list here.

The event is organized by the office of City Councilmember Arjun Batra. People wishing to volunteer with unloading (including students seeking service hours) can contact Michele Dexter in Batra’s office at (408) 535-4910 or Michele.Dexter@SanJoseCa.gov.
