DUBLIN — A Tracy man has pleaded no contest to killing a motorcyclist in a 2020 crash, but his sentencing is to-be-determined.

Brent Collom, 49, pleaded no contest last May to a vehicular manslaughter charge in the death of 40-year-old Michael Thomas, of Palo Alto. At his Aug. 29 sentencing date, he faces up to one year in county jail, and as little as a probation term, court records show.

The sentencing will be held before Judge Clifford Blakely, according to the court hearing schedule.

Collom was charged in 2021 with manslaughter, drunk driving causing injury, and driving while legally drunk. Police said he drove a BMW into a motorcycle Thomas was driving, and that Thomas’ passenger, a woman, was also injured. Collom allegedly admitted to drinking before the crash and submitted to a blood-alcohol test, which showed he was legally drunk, according to police.

Collom has been out of custody while the case is pending, records show.
