New York – NYPD patrol cars are getting a new slogan and design — just a year after their last update.
Decals imprinted with the old motto — “Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect” — will be replaced with decals bearing the new one: “Fighting crime, protecting the public.”
A department spokesperson did not immediately answer a question about the reason for the update.
Gothamist reported that currently, 125 new vehicles carry the new logo.
The department has a total of about 10,000 patrol cars. New patrol cars will be outfitted with the updated decals.
The new slogan is written in a lower case, cursive font on the back windows. The new cars have five green and white strips on their sides representing the five boroughs of New York City. White stars over blue nod to the NYPD flag, with the stars representing the towns and villages that became New York City in 1899.
