Student teams from Monta Vista High School and Kennedy Middle School took top honors in late May at the 40th annual Science Olympiad National Tournament at Michigan State University in East Lansing. The win was a first for Monta Vista’s team, while Kennedy’s team celebrated a back-to-back victory.

Monta Vista student Ishanvi Kommula was among five high school seniors to win a $10,000 Founders’ Scholarship from the Science Olympiad USA Foundation.

Science Olympiad brought together 120 middle school and high school teams advancing from state-level competitions. The students compete in hands-on and lab events covering topics in engineering, physics, epidemiology, astronomy, chemistry, robotics and coding.
