SAN LEANDRO — Two boys, ages 12 and 13 from Oakland, were arrested Sunday in a vehicle taken during an armed carjacking of a pizza delivery person Friday night, police said Monday.

The carjacking happened just before 9 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of Lexington Avenue.

The victim, a man who was delivering a pizza, was forcibly removed from his Nissan Altima sedan by four suspects, one of whom puled a gun and demanded the victim’s car keys, Lt. Matt Barajas said in a news release.

The suspects then fled in the vehicle.

About 9 a.m. Sunday a San Leandro police officer patrolling the area of the Walmart store, 15555 Hesperian Blvd. located the carjacked vehicle on the south side of the business, police said.  The officer observed several people occupying the vehicle and at one point the occupants got out of the vehicle and entered the store.

Additional officers were then called to the scene.

A police perimeter was established around the vehicle and business.  Moments later, the suspects exited the store and police arrested the 12 and 13-year-old in connection to the carjacking, police said.  The remaining occupants,  all juveniles, were released to relatives.

“We are thankful to have alert officers who share information with one and other.  In this case, our midnight officers presented this investigation to our dayshift officers who diligently looked for and found the carjacked vehicle,” Barajas said.

San Leandro was not the only East Bay police agency to arrest a juvenile Sunday for a carjacking.  Antioch police arrested a 13-year-old Concord boy Sunday morning who they spotted  driving a BMW carjacked in Oakland at gunpoint Friday. The suspect led Antioch officers on a  chase before crashing in Oakley where he was arrested..
