CAMPBELL — Gunfire broke out as the St. Francis-Serra CCS Division I championship game on Friday night was nearly ending, sending terrified fans and players scrambling and diving to the ground for safety.

Gunshots were heard outside the stadium at Westmont High a little before 9 p.m. Serra had just gone up 16-12 with 2:18 remaining in the game when the sound of shots rang out and fans and players began running for cover. More than 5,000 tickets were sold for the game between WCAL rivals.
Police, including a helicopter, arrived on the scene. CCS officials resumed the game a little after 9:30 p.m. after police gave the all clear.

There were no immediate reports of injuries at the stadium.
