Milpitas turns 70

Milpitas celebrated its platinum anniversary Jan. 26, marking 70 years since the city’s incorporation in 1954.

“On January 26, we celebrate the spirit of unity and tenacity that defines Milpitas,” Mayor Carmen Montano said in a statement. Our community has faced challenges and achieved success together.”

“Our 70th anniversary is a testament to the dedication of our residents, the strength of our community bonds and the promise of an even brighter future,”  said Vice Mayor Evelyn Chua.

Councilmember Anthony Phan added, “This milestone is also a celebration of the possibilities that lie ahead.”

On Jan. 25, the eve of Milpitas’ 70th anniversary, the city hosted an open house at the City Hall rotunda with music from the last seven decades, and historical photo displays in partnership with the Milpitas Historical Society.

Getting homes FutureFit

Responding to an increasing demand for rebates, Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) has added $3 million to its FutureFit Homes program. Customers of the Sunnyvale-based green energy aggregator have received or reserved over $2.8 million in rebates since the program launched in October 2022 to provide financial support for customers who upgrade from gas to energy-efficient electric heat pump equipment.

Through the program, 223 heat pump water heaters and 334 heat pump space heating and cooling systems have been upgraded, and 109 pre-wired circuits have been installed.
