OAKLAND — Police here have identified the 50-year-old man who was shot and killed in front of his wife on the early morning of Christmas Eve.
Marlon Jones, 50, of Oakland, was shot and killed while taking groceries from his car into his home at around 12:05 a.m. on Dec. 24, police said. The shooting occurred on 28th Street in the Pill Hill neighborhood of Oakland.
Police say Jones’ wife witnessed the shooting, and that an unidentified assailant ran up, shot him at least once and fled the area. Police have not announced any arrests, nor said if they have pinpointed a motive.
Jones died before he could be taken to a hospital, authorities said.
A firearm was recovered from the crime scene but it is not believed to be the gun that killed Jones, authorities said.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. Police say tipsters can contact them at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950.
