After struggling with some career setbacks, Lindsay Lohan is back to starring in movies, as can be seen in the first look photo for a Christmas rom-com at Netflix. The movie, which is not yet officially titled, is a love story set during the holiday season with Lohan co-starring alongside Chord Overstreet. It’s set to start streaming during next year’s holiday season, and the first look photo reveals Lohan beaming and surrounded by Christmas lights.

Per Variety, the Netflix movie follows Lohan as a “newly engaged, spoiled hotel heiress who gets amnesia after a skiing accident and finds herself in the care of a handsome, blue-collar lodge owner (Overstreet) and his precocious daughter in the days leading up to Christmas.” Along with Lohan and Overstreet, the cast includes George Young, Jack Wagner, and Olivia Perez. Janeen Damian (A Christmas Waltz) is directing Lohan’s rom-com for Netflix using a screenplay co-written with Michael Damian, Jeff Bonnett, and Ron Oliver. MPCA’s Brad Kevoy and Riviera Films’ Michael Damian are producing. Some fans called out the movie for being an Overboard ripoff.

A former child star, Lindsay Lohan’s acting career slowed considerably in her adult years, in part due to her personal issues. She’s been making more of an effort to get back on the big and small screens in recent years, and while she did not succeed with her pitch to be cast as Ariel in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid, she has been getting more show business work. In 2019, she starred in the MTV reality series Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club, and that same year, she said on CNN’s New Year’s Eve special she she wanted to “come back to Ameriac and start filming again.”

Lohan also had a starring role in the 2019 horror movie Among the Shadows and had a recurring role on the British series Sick Note in 2018. This year, her voice was heard in the animated series Devil May Care. Lohan will also star with Mickey Rourke in the upcoming supernatural thriller Cursed, in which she will play a police detective teaming up with a famous psychiatrist (Rourke) to stop an escaped psychiatric patient from killing a group of people held hostage in a remote house.

The actress is also aware that we are living in the age of sequels and revivals, and she is open to doing a sequel to Mean Girls if that opportunity comes along. Speaking with David Spade on the comedian’s comedy series Lights Out, Lohan said, “I should probably get back to doing movies at some point. I think I was hanging on to Mean Girls for a really long time. I wanted to come back with a Mean Girls 2. To work with Tina Fey, and the whole crew again, and Mark Waters. That was really what I wanted. I was excited to do that. But that’s all in their hands, really. So that would definitely be an exciting thing.”

Mean Girls 2 could still happen, but for now, fans of Lohan can see her in the upcoming romantic comedy. Lindsay Lohan’s untitled holiday rom-com will debut on Netflix in the holiday season of 2022. This news comes to us from Variety.
