ALAMEDA — Human remains found along the shoreline near the Bay Farm Island Bridge last month are those of a woman and her death is being investigated as a homicide, police said Wednesday.

The woman is believed to be 20 to 40-years-old but she has not yet been identified, authorities said.

Based on initial autopsy findings, police said the death is being investigated as a homicide, but the cause of death is not clear. Police are trying to determine when and where the woman was killed and how long she had been in the water.

The remains were found about 3:30 p.m. July 20 along the shoreline near the bridge.

The death is the first homicide investigated by police this year.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 510-337-8340.
