OAKLAND — Six people were shot in four East Oakland shootings Friday night and early Saturday, including a man and woman wounded in a shoot-out at a gas station where a 6-year-old boy was shot last month, authorities said.
The shootings happened within six hours. None of them appear to be related at this time, authorities said.
The gas station shoot-out happened about 11:59 p.m. Friday at the Kwik Serv at 22nd avenue and East 12th Street, police said. A 40-year-old Richmond man was pumping gas when another vehicle pulled into the station and two men got out.
Words were exchanged between the three before all pulled guns and began shooting, authorities said. Police have not yet said what prompted the confrontation. The Richmond man was hit in the lower body. A 25-year-old Antioch woman who was with him tried to intervene and was shot in the shoulder, police said.
The wounded man and woman were taken to a hospital and were in stable condition. The man was placed under arrest at the hospital for assault with a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm, authorities said. The two other gunmen fled the station before police arrived and are being sought. Police said dozens of shell casings were recovered at the station.
That gas station is also where a 6-year-old boy sitting in a car was shot on June 16. The boy had multiple wounds to his leg from stray bullets fired by more than one gunman targeting another person at the station, authorities said. The case remains under investigation. The boy is still recovering.
Also on Friday, a 36-year-old man was shot multiple times in the area of the 7800 block of Ney Avenue about 11 p.m., according to initial reports. He got his own transportation to a hospital where he was in critical but stable condition.
The man told police that he had been shot by someone who stole his wallet and cell phone. A detailed description of the robber was not released.
And about 7:32 p.m. Friday, a 27-year-old man was shot multiple times in the arm in the 9200 block of A Street.
Authorities said the man was working on a vehicle when he got into a dispute with several other men who had gotten out of another vehicle. One of those men shot the victim, then they fled in the vehicle they arrived in, authorities said.
Police have not said if the wounded man knew the shooter or what the dispute was about. No arrests have been made.
On Saturday about 1 a.m., two men were wounded in a shooting in the 2200 block of Foothill Boulevard, authorities said.
A 30-year-old Oakland man was wounded in the neck and a 31-year-old Antioch man was shot in the arm. They told police they were walking outside when they heard gunfire and realized they had been hit. Both men got their own transportation to a hospital and were in stable condition.
Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and if the men were the intended targets. No arrests have been made.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money in the gas station and Foothill Boulevard shootings and up to $5,000 in the other two shootings. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or 510-238-3326 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
