PITTSBURG — A man who police said was beaten to death in an altercation with another man has been identified.

Authorities said 50-year-old Allan Flores died from the injuries he received in the physical fight on June 17. Officers found him unresponsive on the ground near the intersection of Railroad Avenue and East Leland Road, police said.

They pronounced him dead at the intersection.

The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office released his identity Thursday.

Police arrested 46-year-old Pittsburg resident Juan Mendez-Medina. On Thursday afternoon, Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Ted Asregadoo said formal murder charges had been filed against Mendez-Medina.

Mendez-Medina is scheduled to be arraigned at the Richmond courthouse Friday morning.

He remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility on a no-bail hold, according to jail records.
