OAKLAND — An 18-year-old woman was shot inside an East Oakland apartment early Monday morning by someone who was outside the unit, authorities said.
The woman was shot in the shoulder and was in stable condition at a hospital.
The shooting, which prompted a gunshot detection system alert, happened about 3:06 a.m. Monday in the 800 block of 70th Avenue, not far from the Coliseum.
Police were told the woman was hanging out with friends in the apartment when gunshots were fired into the apartment by a man standing outside. The woman was the only one hit by the gunfire. Authorities did not say how many other people were in the apartment.
Investigators were still trying to determine why the man targeted the apartment or if he knew who was inside. A detailed description of the gunman was not released and no arrests were announced.
The woman was able to make it on her own to her home in the area, where police and medical personnel were called.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $7,500 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
