OAKLAND — A 21-year-old San Leandro woman driving in East Oakland early Saturday was killed by gunfire and a Hayward man was shot Friday night in another area of the city, authorities said.

The two shootings are not connected, authorities said.

The woman, whose name was not released, was shot about 2:19 a.m. Saturday as she was driving an SUV eastbound in the 9200 block of MacArthur Boulevard on her way home, police said.

Authorities said another woman was in the vehicle but was not hurt.

Police said the women had just left a store in the area and were driving when someone from outside began shooting at their vehicle.  The San Leandro woman was hit by the gunfire  but continued driving to the 9500 block of MacArthur Boulevard when she crashed into some parked vehicles, police said. She was pronounced dead there.

Police said two parked vehicles were also hit by the gunfire in the 9200 block of MacArthur,, but no other injuries were reported.

Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and whether the women were the intended targets of the shooter.  No arrests have been announced.

The other shooting happened about 11:22 p.m. Friday in the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way in West Oakland.

Authorities said a 33-year-old man, who police were told lives in Hayward, was outside with a group of people  when at least one person began shooting at them.  Police have not said if the shooter was also outside or was firing from a vehicle.

The Hayward man was wounded in the leg.  A relative drove him to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

A parked vehicle was also hit by the gunfire but no other injuries were reported.

Police are trying to determine a motive for the shooting and if the man wounded or someone else in the group was the intended target of the shooter.

The fatal shooting is the 33rd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  Last year at this time police had investigated 39 homicides in the city.
