Even if you aren’t a knife person, odds are you know who Daniel Winkler is, whether you realize it or not. Daniel first hit the scene designing tomahawks for the film The Last of the Mohicans. Since that time, he has constructed combat/breaching axes for America’s special operators. Most recently, you have probably seen his work in the Terminal List, as James Reece eviscerates a combatant with a pair of Winkler’s hawks. Now Daniel Winkler teams up with Sig Sauer and Special Operations Forces operator Kevin Holland for the LEGION Operator Knife.

The Daniel Winkler LEGION Operator Knife

Kevin Holland has experience at the highest level of special operations in both the U.S. Navy SEALS as well as the U.S. Army Special Operations. His time in the field led him to design the Operator Knife. When it came to collaborating with the right maker, master bladesmith Daniel Winkler was the clear option.

Featuring an overall length of 9 inches, the Operator Knife is constructed of 80CrV2 steel throughout the full tang design. 80CrV2 offers excellent toughness and can withstand stress and impact from hard use. However, it also remains easy to sharpen in the field. For this reason, it makes a great option for field utility knives, perfect for military and civilians alike.

Simple in design, the 4.75-inch low-profile drop point blade includes a no-glare finish for clandestine use. Additionally, a thumb ramp sits just forward the grip and features jimping for slip-free use, even with wet hands. Correspondingly, the aggressive tip provides maximum penetration in even the toughest subject matter. The presentation side displays the Sig medallion, while the obverse shows the LEGION chevron.

The grip features an ergonomic shape intended to lock the hand into a solid purchase, whether forward or reverse grip. Similarly, rough finish micarta handle scales provide no-slip engagement.

The knife comes with a heavy-duty Kydex sheath with excellent retention. In addition, the sheath’s configuration allows for it to be carried vertically or horizontally on the belt.
