St. Ignatius announced Lenny Vandermade as the team’s head football coach via a press release on Wednesday.
Vandermade, a graduate of Mater Dei-Santa Ana and the University of Southern California, has been an assistant coach at USC for the past four years.
“I want to thank Principal Michelle Nevin Levine, Mr. Jeff Glosser, Mr. John Mulkerrins and the rest of the football search committee at St. Ignatius for the opportunity to serve as its next head football coach,” Vandermade said in a press release. “My family and I are excited to immerse ourselves in the SI community.”
Vandermade steps into a position vacated by John Regalia, who stepped down in January after 12 years as head coach.
In addition to coaching stops in the NFL and college football, Vandermade also has experience working at the high school level, taking jobs at Loyola-Los Angeles in 2014 and later Santa Margarita in 2016 as an assistant coach.
“Coach Lenny Vandermade brings a wealth of football knowledge in both playing and coaching experience to our football program,” SI athletic director John Mulkerrins said via press release. “His passion and enthusiasm for the game of football is contagious.”
