HAYWARD — A 50-year-old man died Sunday in a two-car crash at an intersection in the industrial part of the city, police said.
The crash at the intersection of W. Winton Avenue and Clawiter Road happened about 7:30 p.m. Both cars had only the driver inside them, according to a statement from Hayward police.
It was the first fatal wreck in the city this year.
A 22-year-old man stayed at the crash site and cooperated with police. Police said they believe that man was under some kind of impairment but did not make an arrest immediately.
The older man was unconscious when officers arrived, and medics weren’t able to revive him, police said. Medics pronounced him dead.
Authorities did not identify the man Monday, pending notification of his next of kin.
