OAKLAND — Two men were shot Sunday afternoon near an East Oakland intersection and one died at a hospital soon after, authorities said.
The shooting happened about 1:40 p.m. Sunday in the area of East 18th Street and Rosedale Avenue, a mainly residential area.
A 31-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, authorities said. He underwent surgery later Sunday at a hospital and was initially listed in critical condition but was later pronounced dead, police said in a statement.
The killing is the tenth homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year, police had investigated the same number of homicides in the city by Feb. 5.
The victims’ identities are being withheld pending notification to next of kin.
Another man was shot in the leg. He was in stable condition.
Police have not said if the men knew each other.
Police were trying to determine if the men were shot by someone in a passing vehicle or by someone on the street.A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No arrests have been announced.
