HAYWARD — A 33-year-old San Leandro man has been charged with three felony crimes in a road-rage shooting Monday, according to police and court records.
The driver who was shot at was not hurt, but his vehicle was hit six times by gunfire, police said.
The suspect was charged with assault with a semi-automatic firearm, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, and carrying a loaded firearm on one’s person in a city. He was being held without bail Wednesday at Santa Rita Jail.
The shooting happened about 3 p.m. Monday in the area of Stonewall and West Winton avenues. Police said the shooting apparently stemmed from the suspect speeding in the area. The suspect continued driving after the shooting but was arrested a short time later in the area of West Winton Avenue and Alexander Court.
A loaded 9 mm semi-automatic pistol was found in the suspect’s vehicle. Police said the bullets in the gun matched shell casings recovered at the scene of the shooting.
The driver who was shot at identified the suspect at the scene of his arrest, authorities said.
