BART was experiencing system wide delays on its services Saturday morning due to icy weather conditions and an earthquake that struck the East Bay overnight.
“BART is recovering from an earlier problem. There is a 20-minute delay system wide,” a BART spokesperson said.
Temperatures of around 45 degrees were forecast for the Bay Area overnight, and could plunge below 40 degrees on Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.
Track inspections were also taking place following a 3.6 magnitude earthquake that shook the Bay Area overnight.
The earthquake occurred in the El Cerrito area at 3:39am, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was centered in Hillside Natural Area, close to the Hayward Fault, and could be felt as far as Fremont, Santa Rosa and San Francisco.
It was the largest quake centered in Contra Costa County since November 2021.
