Frequently, the fine details of a classic car get overlooked, but in some cases a car is so well-preserved that even its cassette tape deck has been rebuilt. This car is one of those.
The Pick of the Day is a low-mileage 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Plant City, Florida. (Click the link to view the listing)
Showing just 42,116 miles on its odometer, this Camaro looks the part of a showroom-fresh car even at over 35 years old. “Car is completely stock,” the listing states. “Only repaint has been to the lower spoiler/skirt/body moldings all the way around the bottom of the car to repair rock chips.”
This sport coupe comes from the Camaro’s third generation which shared the General Motors F-body platform with the Pontiac Firebird. It was offered as a two-door liftback or a two-door convertible.
A big step in the Camaro’s evolution during that era came in 1985 when the IROC-Z variant was launched as a nod to the International Race of Champions. The IROC package was available as an option on the Z28, and it came with several engineering upgrades such as Bilstein shock absorbers, larger sway bars, a steering brace, unique 16-inch wheels, and Goodyear tires.
This Camaro generation was offered with three powerplants: an inline-four, a V6, and a V8. This example comes with the 305cid V8 which sends power rearward through a console-shifted TH700-R4 four-speed automatic transmission. Aside from an upgraded R134A air conditioning system, the car retains all-original equipment. Even the factory radio, cassette deck, and equalizer have been refurbished and are working in proper order.
“I’ve owned the car for almost three years and driven around 1,500 miles. It starts and runs just as new as the miles would indicate,” the listing states. “I am only the third owner. Original owner had it until 2019, collector bought it then and sold it to me in January of 2020.”
The seller is asking $28,000 for this Camaro. I bet the audio system sounds perfect playing songs from Bananarama, Tina Turner, Glass Tiger, or any other hit artist from 1986.
