ANTIOCH — A 36-year-old store clerk was shot and killed in Antioch in the early hours of Saturday morning in what police are calling a ‘botched robbery’.

The man, an employee at the gas station/convenience store located on 2701 Contra Loma Blvd, was shot in the head after being held up at gunpoint, authorities said. The suspect is still at large.

According to Antioch police, the shooting was reported at 2:05 a.m. on Saturday by another employee at the store.

Several officers reported to the scene and found the man on the floor just inside the store’s entrance. They provided emergency first aid to the man but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after paramedics arrived.

“Officers at the scene were able to determine that the victim was an employee at the service station and was held up at gunpoint during what appears to be a botched robbery,” Antioch police said in a statement.

“The suspect(s) fled on foot and have not yet been located.”

Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses in the area. “The investigation is still active, and evidence is being collected,” police said.
