BEREA, Ohio — Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills after suffering a concussion in Friday’s practice.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said that Newsome collided with a teammate during practice, which was held indoors. Cleveland is preparing to play in Detroit’s Ford Field dome after its game got moved from Buffalo because of a snowstorm.
“It happens,” Stefanski said of Newsome’s injury. “You have to adjust.”
Newsome, a first-round draft pick in 2021 out of Northwestern, has mostly been starting at nickelback this season.
Cleveland (3-6) needs a win over the Bills (6-3) to keep its slim playoff hopes alive. ESPN’s Football Power Index gives the Browns just a 4.2% chance to make the postseason. Bills quarterback Josh Allen is third in the NFL with 2,733 passing yards.
Backup corners A.J. Green and Greedy Williams figure to see more time on the field in Newsome’s absence.
