Palo Alto police are investigating a string of home burglaries that have taken place around dinnertime and authorities believe at least several of the incidents are connected. The burglars are taking jewelry and safes from unoccupied homes. No arrests have been made so far.
Since October, 11 homes in the city have been broken into between the hours of roughly 7 to 9 p.m., with backyard windows being smashed in. Police said they believe two to four individuals are responsible for the incidents and surveillance footage obtained from some of the homes show young men in hooded sweatshirts, wearing face coverings and gloves.
The incidents have taken place at the following addresses in Palo Alto:
- Oct. 9: 4200 block Manuela Avenue. Three suspects in a dark gray sedan.
- Oct. 22: 1000 block Moffett Circle. Two suspects.
- Oct. 22: 700 block Rosewood Drive. Two suspects in a gray sedan.
- Oct. 22: 900 block Van Auken Circle.
- Oct. 28: Two incidents on the 4200 block of Briarwood Way.
- Oct. 29: 3400 block Waverley St.
- Oct. 29: 700 block Florales Drive. Four suspects in a white SUV.
- Nov. 3: 2300 block Waverley St.
- Nov. 4: 3600 block Louis Road. Burglars stole a locked gun safe with nine firearms.
- Nov. 5: 200 block Tennyson Ave. Two suspects in a white SUV.
Palo Alto police have increased both marked and unmarked patrols in residential neighborhoods. They are recommending residents secure any side yard gates with a lock.
