HAYWARD — A man was pronounced dead Monday afternoon after his motorcycle went down on Interstate 880 and he was run over by a big-rig truck, the California Highway Patrol said.
The motorcyclist has not yet been identified.
The man was riding his motorcycle in the southbound lanes of Interstate 880 north of A Street about 2:30 p.m. Monday when it went down between a big-rig and a box truck. He was hit by the big-rig, which kept going, the CHP said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
What caused the motorcycle to go down in the roadway is under investigation, the CHP said. CHP Officer Zachary Hunter said investigators are trying to determine if the big-rig driver knew they had struck someone.
Four southbound freeway lanes were closed for awhile during the subsequent investigation.
Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call the CHP Hayward office at 510-489-1500.
