Dog costume contest
The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with theDoghood, is presenting a Halloween Dog Parade and Costume Contest on Oct 28, 4-6:30 p.m.
The parade steps off in front of the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, 14460 Big Basin Way, and moves through the Saratoga Village to Blaney Plaza for the dog costume contest.
Contest categories are most creative, funniest and best friends look-alike. The prizes will be announced at 6 p.m.
‘Crucible’ at SHS
Saratoga High School is staging Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” Nov. 12 and 17-18 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The production features 42 students as cast and/or crew members. Performances are at the McAfee Center on the Saratoga High campus.
A modern allegory for Sen. Joseph McCarthy’s “Red Scare” anti-Communist crusades of the 1950s, “The Crucible” is a partially fictionalized tale of the Salem witch trials that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in the late 1600s.Miller’s play follows a group of girls who accuse upstanding women and men in town of witchcraft to divert suspicion from their own activities.

Natural connection
The Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority is accepting applications for its Urban Grant Program. The grant program aims to fund projects that will improve the quality of life by increasing access to nature for urban residents.
The program is expected to provide a total of $1.5 million, allocated roughly evenly between program and capital project grants. Applications are due Feb. 9, 2023, for the former and Feb. 23, 2023, for the latter.
