Llamas are the best. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to check out some adorable llama tattoos. Llamas are a camelid animal and are in the same family as camels and alpacas. They’re native to the Andes mountain region and since the pre-Columbian era, they’ve been used as pack animals and for their meat. Llamas are often confused with alpacas, however, llamas are larger in size, reaching up to six feet in height and 450lbs in weight. Although there are still wild llamas, llamas have been domesticated for centuries and are very social animals. Despite popular belief, domesticated llamas rarely spit at humans, but in packs llamas often spit at younger llamas in the herd to discipline them.
Llamas are frequently depicted in media and one of the most notable examples is the 2000 animated Disney film, “The Emperor’s New Groove.” In this film, Incan emperor Kuzco (voiced by David Spade) is turned into a llama by the film’s antagonist, his kingdom’s advisor Yzma. Other examples of llamas in popular culture include Tina of “Napoleon Dynamite,” and 2016’s “Ice Age: Collision Course.”
