MARTINEZ — A man charged with murdering his half-brother over a family dispute was ordered to stand trial after a preliminary hearing this month, court records show.
Joseph Gladney, 23, is accused of murdering 25-year-old Vinson Bragg and threatening to kill another man, who is also Gladney’s half-brother, during the hectic June 14 incident in Rodeo. Gladney pleaded not guilty at a Sept. 20 court hearing; a trial date has not yet been set, records show.
Gladney allegedly shot and killed Bragg with a short barrel rifle at a home on the 1200 block of Mariposa Street in Rodeo. He then went upstairs and threatened to shoot the second victim, who leapt from the second story to escape Gladney. The man was hospitalized with injuries from the fall, police said.
Gladney was arrested later that day when a resident on the 300 block of Vallejo Avenue reported someone was hiding on the property. Police allegedly found him hiding a crawlspace on the property.
Witnesses identified Gladney as the shooter. Bragg’s ex-girlfriend also told authorities he had been threatening to shoot up the Mariposa Street home after being kicked out, and that he’d made a “shooting gesture” to her just hours before the homicide.
Gladney is next due in court Nov. 2, records show.
