Actor Gary Busey was arrested and charged with sex crimes that were purportedly committed during a horror movie and memorabilia fan convention held in New Jersey earlier this month.
On Friday, the 78-year-old actor from Malibu, California, was charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, one count of attempted criminal sexual contact, and one count of harassment. Cherry Hill Police Department confirmed the arrest on Saturday in a statement.
“During the weekend of the event, August 12th-14th, 2022, Cherry Hill Police responded to the Doubletree Hotel, 2349 West Route 70, for the report of a sex offense,” the Cherry Hill Police Department stated.
“The investigation into this matter is ongoing and anyone with additional information is urged to contact Detective Robert Daniello of the Cherry Hill Police Department at (856) 432-8834,” the Cherry Hill Police Department said.
The police did not reveal the exact details of the alleged crimes.
The reported crimes occurred during the semi-annual Monster-Mania Con – a horror film convention where fans can meet celebrities from the genre. The convention was held at the Doubletree Hotel in Cherry Hill.
Busey was a featured guest for all three days of the event. He was one of the celebrities who met with fans and signed autographs.
WTXF-TV reporter Steve Keely wrote on Twitter, “Several at the convention had reported earlier in the week Gary Busey was removed from the event last weekend after they reported he was groping women. And reported that another actor appearing there ‘helped have Busey thrown out.'”
Busey is known for appearing in Hollywood movies such as “Predator 2,” “The Buddy Holly Story,” “Point Break,” and “Under Seige.”
