Shocking video shows the moment that a Florida man opened fire on a pickup truck at a gas station in Panama City Beach.
At 2:50 a.m. on Sunday, a fistfight erupted at a gas station in Panama City Beach. The brawl was reportedly started after two men in a pickup truck told several occupants of a sedan to “leave the girls alone.” The men in the sedan had reportedly made comments to women walking in the parking lot.
A man is seen on surveillance video taking a wild swing at a man near a sedan in the parking lot of the gas station. The man barely dodges the punch aimed at his head. The assailant then punches the victim in the back.
The man from the truck then violently punches another man on the front passenger side of the sedan. The man keeps swinging his fists until his friend in the pickup truck comes over to break up the fight. The two men then get in the pickup truck.
A woman in the front passenger seat of the sedan gets out the car and approaches the pickup truck. She is holding a handgun. The second man who was punched gets up from the pavement and takes the gun away from the woman.
The driver of the pickup truck shoves the woman away. Meanwhile, the man with the gun points the firearm at the man who assaulted him.
The surveillance video released by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office shows a Florida man firing eight shots at the pickup truck as it speeds out of the gas station parking lot.
The two men in the pickup truck were struck by the gunfire. The victims suffered non-life-threatening wounds.
The sedan then flees the crime scene – even leaving some of the passengers that were in the car when they arrived at the gas station.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office identified the shooter as Tighree Thomas, 43. Thomas was later arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and shooting Into an occupied vehicle, according to the Panama City News Herald.
His wife – 47-year-old Norma Jean Thomas – was charged with principal to two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and principal to shooting into an occupied vehicle.
The couple were taken to the Bay County Jail.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office said an investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are expected.
“Investigators are now working to charge Benjamin Lau, 28, from Havana, Florida, with battery,” deputies wrote in a news release. “Lau is the man in the video seen exiting the truck he was in and initiating a physical confrontation with Tighree Thomas before the shooting. This action is what led to Lau being charged with battery.”
