Although their relationship may be complex, Hardy says the characters’ rapport isn’t entirely unprecedented, categorizing them as “flatmates that are not getting on well at all” like Oscar and Felix in the beloved sitcom. “They have very different ideas and opinions about the world and are rubbing against each other in a very small apartment,” Hardy said. “Two lovers argue, a married couple argues… our two roommates are kind of asexual characters that are forced to live with one another.”
While it seems we’ll ultimately learn the fate of Eddy and Venom when the movie hits theaters on October 1, it seems there may be more in store for the dynamic duo (or well, single-human-bodied duo) beyond Venom: Let There Be Carnage. In a recent Instagram Live interview with IGN earlier this month, Serkis took a break from hyping up what will inevitably be the homoerotic love story of the century to mention that Venom would eventually face off with Spider-Man.
“That’s the question on everyone’s lips,” Serkis explained when asked if/when the two characters would reunite. “They want to know when Venom is going to meet Spider-Man. Personally, it’s never going to happen. I’m only joking, of course it’s going to happen,” he joked, saying that the specifics of their meeting would be determined by “what the appetite is” from the Marvel/Sony loving public.
“If people want more Venom stories, than to jump straight to Spider-Man you could be missing out on so many great supervillain characters in between now and then. But yes, everyone wants to see Venom fight Spider-Man, so I think it’s appetite,” he added.
