The White House rushed out to mop up another gaffe from President Joe Biden after he claimed during a speech Wednesday that he has cancer.
Biden was speaking in Massachusetts to announce $2.3 billion in new funding to combat global warming when he added the startling admission.
“Guess what? The first frost, you know what was happening? You had to put on your windshield wipers to get literally the oil slick off the window,” he said, referring to air pollution during his childhood.
“That’s why I and so damn many other people I grew up [with] have cancer,” Biden added. “For the longest time, Delaware had the highest cancer rate in the nation, but that’s the past.”
The odd remark led many on social media to conjecture whether Biden had accidentally revealed a new cancer diagnosis, but others defended the president and said he was simply referring to previously reported health issues.
The White House chimed in to reiterate that Biden was not confirming a new diagnosis but that he was merely referring to previous bouts of skin cancer, which have since been removed.
Biden announced several executive orders to combat global warming during the speech, but he backed off from declaring a national climate change emergency, as many believed he might.
“This is an emergency, and an emergency, and I will look at it that way,” Biden said.
“I said last week, say it again, loud and clear,” he added. “As president, I’ll use my executive powers to combat climate change, the climate crisis, in the absence of congressional action.”
A recent poll found that a large majority of Democrats do not want Biden to run for the presidency again in 2024. Among the top concerns for them are his age and his job performance.
