Redwood City police arrested a man suspected of fatally stabbing a person with whom he shared a home, according to a community message from the department.
Officers responded to a reported assault around 10:45 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 900 block of 7th Avenue. According to authorities, a person had called the police, saying that he had stabbed the victim at their shared residence. When officers arrived, he was outside the residence and detained without incident.
When police entered the home, they found an unresponsive woman with multiple stab wounds. Redwood City Fire Department and emergency medical personnel provided the victim with emergency medical care but she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The identity of the victim was not immediately released pending notification of her next of kin.
The suspect is Juan Antonio Garcia, a 57-year-old Redwood City resident. He was booked into Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of homicide and other felony weapons charges.
Redwood City detectives took over the investigation after the area was secure, along with an investigator and deputy district attorney from the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office. The weapon used in the killing was recovered and the investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
