When the Saturn Corporation was launched as a subsidiary of General Motors in 1991, it was promoted as “A different kind of company. A different kind of car.” While the company had its unique attributes (organization culture, profit-sharing, lifestyle and a standalone dealership network), one of its cars was very much like a sister vehicle being produced by Pontiac: the Solstice.

Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 2008 Saturn Sky Roadster. The car is being offered by a private seller in Locust Grove, Virginia, and the auction will end Tuesday.

The Sky and Solstice rode on the General Motors “Kappa” platform, and the Solstice beat the Sky to market by one model year. The Sky had styling that was drawn by Franz von Holzhausen, and it was sold in Europe as the Opel GT. General Motors definitely tried to get its money’s worth out of the research, development and engineering investment.

Showing only 71,000 original miles, this car is an unmodified survivor with just one owner. It comes in Light Tarnished Silver Metallic with a black cloth retractable top. The Sky was only a two-seater, so while it’s not the most practical or utilitarian car, it’s the perfect weekend cruiser – and it’s an economical one at that. Under the hood is a 2.4-liter Ecotec LE5 inline-four that was rated at 25 miles per gallon on the highway.

The CARFAX for the car offers a compelling perspective, since it classifies the Sky as a one-owner vehicle with no accidents. There are 28 service history records to weed through. Original delivery on July 26, 2007, was handled by Ted Britt Chevrolet in Sterling, Virginia. The car returned there religiously in the first several years for service. The most recent maintenance took place in September 2024. In addition, the battery was replaced as of August, and the car passed a Virginia state safety inspection that month as well.

A commercial for the 2007 Saturn Sky shows a car coming to life from a sketch on a napkin. Indeed, it was a car that took a unique approach to the industry. But even the Sky wasn’t enough to save Saturn financially; the brand was dissolved in October 2010 during part of a General Motors reorganization.

That means your only chance at owning a low-mileage Saturn is to find one like this. Reach for the Sky and see if it takes you to new heights!

The auction for this 2008 Saturn Sky Roadster will end Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 11:45 a.m. (MST)
