Back in April 1971, after visiting the Montreal International Car Show, I fell in love with the Citroën DS. The next week I bought the last available 1971 DS with directional headlights from the Citroën dealer on Ste-Catherine Street in Montreal, trading in my 1968 Mustang GT. The 1972 Citroën models had just arrived, and unfortunately on these new models Citroën had complied with the American regulations concerning the ban of directional headlights and standard headlights had been installed, which in my opinion disfigured the front of the 1972 DS models.
All my friends did not understand why a 25-year-old Mustang owner would trade it in for this ugly car. I’ve been the proud owner of my DS for 54 years, and those friends now admit it is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
During all my years of ownership, I have never driven my DS in winter, have stored it in a well-heated and ventilated garage, and have maintained the car is showroom condition.
