Creating community
Community engagement remains high in an ongoing effort to create a new, multigenerational community center in Los Gatos, according to the group spearheading the cause.
The Los Gatos Foundation for Older Adults to Thrive, or LG Thrives, presented an update on its community center efforts at a town council meeting on Nov. 19, noting an enduring interest from Los Gatos residents in participating in the effort as well as a tangible desire to have a community gathering space.
LG Thrives president Tom Picraux said the group’s next steps are to raise funds to put together an conceptual architectural design, identify two preliminary site options and come up with a funding plan within the next year.
“We feel this is worth a major effort to achieve, we know it’s not easy,” Picraux said at the meeting.
Health and safety
El Camino Health hospitals in Los Gatos and Mountain View have received an “A” grade in hospital safety from Leapfrog, a nonprofit that studies hospital safety and quality.
This marks the fifth consecutive recognition of the two facilities from Leapfrog, according to a press release from El Camino Health.
Speaking of Toastmasters…
The Los Gatos Toastmasters are inviting community members looking to improve their public speaking and leadership skills to a session on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
