There’s something in the automotive industry that companies are always trying to fill. Yes, they like stuffing their order books and dealerships with new models, but that’s not what I mean. I’m talking about white space, the area that exists between two types of models. The BMW X6 is a great example of this, as it occupies the gap between a coupe and a traditional SUV. Our Pick of the Day, a 1966 Chevrolet C10 panel truck listed by a dealership on ClassicCars.com, fills in the white space between a pickup and a conventional van.
According to one of its 1966 brochures, Chevy offered 11 Step-Vans in 21 different body sizes. But if their styling or dimensions just weren’t right, customers didn’t have to default to a standard pickup truck. They could buy something in the white space between the two of them: a panel truck. This one has been painted in the attractive combination of Lemonwood Cream and Sandlewood Tan, which draws attention to the enclosed cargo area.
That is fully carpeted from top to bottom, which would be great for car camping. Adding a rubber mat would enable it to haul things (such as the included spare rear bumper, gas tank, or barn doors) without worrying about the floor.
Wherever you end up taking this, you’ll get there on the tan and cream vinyl and charcoal fabric bench seat, surrounded by the convenience of power steering, power brakes, a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission, and a Vintage Air A/C system.
You can get to your destination more quickly by putting your right foot down hard and opening up all four barrels of the rebuilt 283ci V8’s carburetor.
If there’s white space between your daily driver and your old-school muscle car, it’ll take $44,995 to fill it with this classic Chevy.
