Trucks have gotten so luxurious and expensive! Today, they’re used for hauling families around so often that we can lose sight of the fact that they are work vehicles, whether at a quarry or a lumber yard. Work is exactly what our Pick of the Day, a 1959 GMC 150 NAPCO 4X4 pickup listed by a private seller on ClassicCars.com, was used for – twice.

According to the seller, this 150 was “was purchased new in California for the Forestry Division in 1959 and upfitted with the Napco 4×4 system,” which was an available GMC factory-installed option. That kind of service can be hard on the body, suspension, engine, and interior of a truck. At some point, this one retired from the US Forest Service but, even then, it wasn’t done working. Fortunately, it sounds as if its new job was much less demanding than before. The seller states this truck was used as “the perfect advertising piece” for his now-defunct landscaping and gardening business.

It also acquired a bunch of updates. The body was repainted, but sanded for an aged look. The floor of the bed was replaced with fresh oak planks and stainless steel rails. New Goodyear tires were installed on the white 19.5-inch wheels, making this rig look as if it’s ready for ad campaigns in rough country. If the terrain ever gets a little too rugged, there’s a side-mounted spare.

The inside of the cabin looks to be in good shape as it is, but it also got a major update in the form of new gray vinyl upholstery for the bench seat. That’s easy to see through the reportedly original windows. Currently, there’s no radio installed, but it seems a factory unit comes with the purchase of this truck.

Under the hood, the straight-six wasn’t rebuilt, but it did receive a tune-up along with several new parts, which include spark plugs and wires, radiator and hoses, and battery. The engine chug-a-lugs along through a newer exhaust system and muffler.

For $45,000 (OBO), you can buy this handsome pickup and decide if it’s going to stay retired or enter the work force once again. No matter which way you decide, it’ll look good doing it.
