Two people were injured in a shooting Saturday night on the 2100 block of Peppertree Way, according to Antioch police.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 9 p.m.

“It was reported that at least one person, a 47-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound. Officers on the scene provided first aid until paramedics arrived,” police stated. The 47-year-old victim is currently listed in stable but critical condition.

A second victim, a 20-year-old man, also sustained a gunshot wound and arrived at a local hospital using his own transportation. He is in stable condition and expected to survive. Police determined the two injuries were related.

Police are withholding the identities of both victims and suspects at this time.

The shooting occurred along the Sycamore Drive corridor north of Highway 4, an area that officials say has become a hotspot for gun violence in the East Bay suburb.

Antioch officials have been grappling with how to address the rise in gun violence in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, Mayor Lamar Thorpe sought $500,000 in funding to increase police presence especially along this corridor, where more than 22 shootings have been reported since the beginning of the year.

Anyone with information or tips regarding the shooting is urged to contact the Antioch Police Department’s investigations bureau at 925-779-6884.
