Featured on AutoHunter, the online auction platform driven by ClassicCars.com, is this 1946 Pontiac Streamliner station wagon that is currently owned by an automotive museum. It is powered by an upgraded, overhauled 248.9ci L-head straight-eight, which is mated to a rebuilt three-speed manual transmission. Finished in pale green with two-tone wood paneling over a brown vinyl interior, this Pontiac woodie wagon is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear title.
The original Smoked Pearl paint was replaced with a pale green finish, which coordinates nicely with the two-tone wood side paneling. Exterior features include chrome bumpers and trim, amber auxiliary lights, a body-color sun visor, a tan canvas roof covering, and rear fender skirts.
A set of body-color 16-inch wheels with Pontiac hub caps and rim-to-road Coker Classic whitewall tires gets this station wagon to car shows and ice cream shops.
Inside, there are three rows of brown vinyl bench seats flanked by two-tone wood door panels and trim. Features include front lap belts, manual windows, and an AM radio. The seller notes the following issues:
- Alignment slightly off on the driver-side door
- Heater fan motor switch inoperable
- Clock does work but is currently disconnected to minimize battery drain
- Radio does work but requires an antenna
Vehicle information is displayed on a 100-mph speedometer and gauges for the battery, fuel level, oil pressure, and water temperature. The odometer shows 89 miles, but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
The original 239.2ci I6 has been replaced with a 248.9ci straight-eight, which is connected to a single-barrel carburetor and a three-speed manual gearbox. The engine received new rings, new rod bearings, and a valve job as part of a 2014 overhaul; the transmission was overhauled the same year.
That was also the year a high-speed rear end was installed. Suspension hardware includes variable-rate rear leaf springs. A set of drum brakes brings this Pontiac to a stop.
Whichever price this Pontiac sells for, the selling dealer will add a $60 dealer fee to it.
The auction for this 1946 Pontiac Streamliner station wagon ends on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. (PDT).
