OAKLAND — Police have identified the 50-year-old man who was shot and killed in East Oakland a short time after parking his vehicle and walking to a nearby neighborhood.
Lamar Payne, of Stockton, was fatally shot at around 8 p.m. on Sept. 7, the final victim of a bloody day in Oakland that included an earlier double homicide at an encampment across town. Payne reportedly parked his Porsche near a park, then walked to the 10500 block of E Street, where he was shot by at least one gunman. The suspect fled in his own vehicle, police said.
Gunfire struck another vehicle that was passing through the area and the driver suffered minor injuries, but was able to secure transport to a hospital on his own, police said.
Authorities haven’t announced any arrests, nor said if they’ve uncovered a motive.
About four hours before Payne was killed, a 29-year-old Oakland woman and a 50-year-old Berkeley man were shot and killed at a West Oakland encampment, and a 55-year-old man was wounded. Police say the two incidents appear unrelated.
