The Future Collector Car Show (FCCS) is approaching, now during the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Fall Auction. Celebrating the cars we love today and the future collectibles of tomorrow, FCCS is a concours-style event featuring vehicles of any year, make, and model that best represent the future interests of the hobby. You can attend or show your vehicle on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at WestWorld of Scottsdale.

One of the many cars in attendance will be this 1999 Nissan Silvia S15 Spec R, which Cave Creek, AZ resident Dave Leden purchased from Japan recently. It started in November 2022 when Dave found this vehicle after spending plenty of time looking for one that was stock and untouched. “This can be difficult to do because many of them have been modified with body kits, poor engine modifications, or rust issues,” he says.

As advertised, the Nissan featured 70,000 kilometers (approximately 43,500 miles) and appeared to be well taken care of. This relied a lot on gut feeling and trust because all Dave had were online photos and the hope that the Japanese grading system was being used honestly, especially with rust.

Of course, to be eligible to be imported to the U.S., a vehicle must be at least 25 years old. Stacked Exports in Osaka helped with the transaction and storage until the Nissan was scheduled for its grand voyage. During this respite, Dave sourced an OEM aero bumper, side skirts, and HSI DG-5 suspension to be fitted before it arrived. “Getting parts and service work in Japan can most often save you money on shipping and labor costs,” adds Dave.

The wait ended in April 2024 as the Nissan finally arrived on our shores. Dave didn’t waste any time personalizing his Nissan even more—he installed GTR R35 Brembo brakes with 380mm rotors, added an original aero GT spoiler and Ganador mirrors, and swapped in Bride Stradia III carbon fiber seats. The exhaust has been upgraded to a Tomei Ti Expreme, and a Nismo Coppermix Twin clutch combines strength with ease of operation. For wheels and tires, he went with a set of 18 x 9.5 Volk TE37SL wheels wrapped in Yokohama ADVAN V601s.

“In the near future, I plan to upgrade the turbo to a top-mount Garrett G25-550, add an intercooler, tweak the fuel system, and a few other supporting mods,” says Dave.

You can take in Dave’s car and more at FCCS on Sunday, October 13, 2024, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, at WestWorld of Scottsdale. Auction gates open at 8:00 am. You can register your vehicle for the show by submitting a $100 fee, which will include four general admission tickets (which also permits everyone to stroll around the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Fall Auction), a limited-edition participate T-shirt, and a commemorative pin. See you there!
